🔶 The Maddalena Islands, Italy
Off Sardinia’s north eastern coast lies an archipelago that feels astonishingly unspoiled. With seven main islands and dozens of islets, La Maddalena is a national park where many of the most stunning coves and anchorages can only be reached by sea. Many of them, like Cala Corsara, are protected and peaceful precisely because they’re accessible by boat alone.
🔶 Vis, Croatia
A world apart from the more crowded Dalmatian destinations, Vis remains one of the Adriatic’s most serene islands. Historically closed off as a military base, it still feels like a place that tourism hasn’t yet discovered, with crystal water, quiet beaches and an authentic island pace that rewards those who arrive by sea. No wonder they chose to film the sequel to ‘Mamma Mia’ there!
🔶 The Sporades, Greece
North of the more familiar Cyclades, the Sporades cluster around the Pelion Peninsula with bays and inlets that are ideal for peaceful days at anchor. Places like Alonissos, Kyra Panagia and Peristera offer protected coves and landscapes that feel far removed from busy summer hotspots.
🔶 Cabrera, Balearic Islands
Just south of Mallorca, the Cabrera archipelago is a designated maritime national park where nature runs the show. With rugged coastlines, dramatic cliffs and protected marine ecosystems, it’s a place where the priority is preservation and where visitor numbers are limited. Snorkelling in its clear waters or dropping anchor off a quiet cove feels like stepping into a part of the Mediterranean that time hasn’t crowded.
